GOING FOR TWO

Argentina, the defending Olympic champion, will try to become the first team to successfully defend its gold medal in men's soccer when it faces Nigeria tonight (9, San Diego time) in the tournament final.

THE CLOSING SHOW

The Beijing Closing Ceremonies will have about 7,000 performers involved, about half the number used for Opening Ceremonies. NBC Sports executive David Neal said he traveled 90 minutes west of Beijing to see a rehearsal of the ceremony conducted in secret on a college campus. Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou, who directed the Opening Ceremonies, does the same for Sunday's finale. “It's just unlike any other closing ceremony I've ever seen,” Neal said. The Closing Ceremonies are expected to feature an eight-minute segment from London, site of the 2012 Games, with Michael Phelps, David Beckham and a performance by singer Leona Lewis with former Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page.

JUST SAY NEIGH

Four horses in the equestrian team jumping competition, including Camiro, who was on Norway's bronze medal team, have been provisionally suspended for doping. The drug test results were all positive for capsaicin, a pain reliever.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

“I didn't speak today with Becky because for me, she was a Russian today.” – U.S. basketball star Lisa Leslie on Becky Hammon, an American and former Colorado State standout who plays for Russia.
