The Oceanside Planning Commission has approved a permit for a massage parlor to open in a shopping center on Oceanside Boulevard.
Because it is a so-called “regulated use,” the matter will go to the City Council, which has objected in the past to the number of massage parlors already in Oceanside.
In a 4-2 vote Monday night, commissioners approved an application by Yao Yu Wang to operate the Oceanside Health Clinic in the Town and Country Shopping Center at Oceanside Boulevard and Interstate 5.
Four residents spoke against the massage parlor at the meeting. One of them, Nadine Scott, read from advertisements saying the establishment promised “table showers,” which she said generally are sexual in nature, an allegation the applicant denied.
Commissioners Tom Rosales and Claudia Troisi voted against issuing a permit. Commissioner Stan Bertheaud was absent.
The city planning staff recommended approval.
