SAN DIEGO – Recordings of 911 calls by students and staff reporting the deadly March 5 shooting at Santana High School in Santee were released Friday by the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

A third of the 32 calls its communications center received were released. In many of the calls, panicked and breathless students urged authorities to send help immediately.

On at least one call, shots could be heard in the background.

The newly released calls are different from tapes of three calls released earlier by the Heartland Fire Department.

In the chaos of the shooting, students gave conflicting accounts of the wounded and of the shooter's description.

Two students were killed and 13 other people were wounded.

Charles Andrew Williams, 15, a freshman, is accused of murder and attempted murder. He is being held in juvenile detention.
